STATEMENT

In my current work, I use painting, sculpture and installation to make metaphoric reliquaries and cathartic shrines that preserve my public and private moments of connection and joy. These ineffable mystical experiences include the queer dance parties I attend as well as the sensations of awe I have in everyday settings. My assemblages venerate community, pleasure, and liberation and pay tribute to the spaces and places that allow me and others to be vulnerable, carefree and subvert societal norms. They shroud and reveal personal boundaries through multiple layers that are camouflaged and adorned using altered photographs, reflective surfaces, bedazzling materials and lighting systems.

By building these celebratory emotional, monuments of identification and affiliation, I express my yearning for communion with all people and invite viewers to encounter ecstasy in utopian worlds.
